GRAMMY AWARD: BEST CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL COMPOSITION

THOMAS CONLIN CONDUCTS THE WARSAW PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA, CHORUS AND SOLOISTS IN GEORGE CRUMB’S MONUMENTAL STAR-CHILD

The recording industry's most prestigious award, the GRAMMY is presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). A GRAMMY is awarded by the Academy's voting membership to honor excellence in the recording arts and sciences. It is truly a peer honor, awarded by and to artists and technical professionals for artistic or technical achievement, not sales or chart positions.

The category Best Classical Contemporary Composition is a composer's award for a composition composed within the last 25 years and released for the first time during the eligibility year. The WINNER of the GRAMMY in this category is George Crumb: Star-Child, recorded by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Chorus and soloists conducted by THOMAS CONLIN (Bridge Records 9095).

The following is a sampling of critical reaction to this CD:

International Record Review - "The sustained intensity of Thomas Conlin's performance is unlikely to be bettered...quite eclipsing the tentative coordination of the New York [Philharmonic] performance.”

Amazon.com Online Review -Thomas Conlin leads the Warsaw Philharmonic to extraordinary heights in Crumb's apocalyptic masterpiece.”

Fanfare Magazine - "Both performances are stunning; Boulez tight and potent, Conlin warm and free. Despite the former's credentials as one of the millennium's musical greats, this emotional outpouring from Warsaw is irresistible."

American Record Guide - "The Warsaw Philharmonic [under conductor Thomas Conlin] makes a brave, exciting noise in the climaxes and is wonderfully restrained in the long fade-in and fade-out."

Billboard Magazine (11/27/99) - Recommended

Pittsburgh Post Gazette - "One of the Ten Best Recordings of the Year"

Gramophone Magazine - "...monumental..."

ClassicsToday.com - 10/10 - Highest Rating "...This miraculous disc represents the fulfillment of a dream for all those music lovers who find themselves captivated by Crumb's haunting, evocative and passionate musical soundscapes....Bridge’s decision to embark on a complete edition of George Crumb’s music remains one of the most significant recording projects currently in progress, as well as one of the most artistically successful.
